Daniel P Gillingwater
Painter
Daniel P Gillingwater attended the Slade School of art... for a short time; it didn't suit him. He has exhibited at the Mall Galleries, The London Sketch Club, The Chelsea Arts Club, The 39 Steps Gallery, The Flood Street Gallery and the Marylebone Gallery. He has painted an Arch Bishop, a Lord Mayor, as well as various musical types - Sir George Benjamin, Olivier Messiaen, Sir Geraint Evan, Stuart Burrow, and Ursula Vaughan Williams.

Among the artists he loves are Rembrandt, Singer Sargent and the mysterious Austin Osman Spare.

The Backwater
I have loved the backwater at Kirby le Soken for more than 35 years. The family have hurled themselves off the little wooden jetty, lounged in the long grass or simply marvelled at the amazing view, whatever the weather or time of year. I have set myself the task of painting the view throughout the year. A selection of paintings are being shown at the Caxton Gallery, Connaught Avenue, Frinton from the 1st August 2024. The figure in most of these paintings is Oscar my eleven, now twelve year old son. It may be of interest to know that all the frames are made from recycled pallet wood.
